Liaoning is a province in China, and the name refers to the eternal peace of the Liaohe River basin. The jade is a specialty of Liaoning province, and is also a national geographic indication product of China.
There are four famous jades in China’s history, such as Lantian Jade in Shanxi, Hetian Jade In Xinjiang, Dushan Jade In Henan, and Xiuyan Jade In Liaoning. Therefore, xiuyu is one of the four most famous jades in China.
Because of its complex composition and diverse physical properties, Xiuyu is not a single jade species. Depending on its mineral composition, Xiuyu can be classified as serpentine jade, tremolite jade, or a mixture of the two. Among them, the serpentine jade is the most common. And the xiuyu seen in the market is most the serpentine jade. This xiuyu is one of the most abundant and moderately priced jades.
How to identity xiuyu?
Color: unlike other jades, xiuyu is available in a wide range of colors. A good xiuyu has a moderate concentration of color, bright and vivid, and evenly distributed.
Transparency: There are many types of opaque jaade, so translucent jade is highly valued, but fully tranparent jade is of the highest quality.
Texture: generally, xiuyu is fine in texture. Excellent quality xiyu is fine-grained, tightly packed, and has few impurities, blemishes, and cracks.
Clarity: the less impurities and imperfections, the better the quality of xiuyu.
Reality vs fake
Jade powder briquettes: Jade powder is hot pressed and formed into briquettes. It is characterized by its lack of luster, lack of transparency, uniform color, cloudy jade quality, and fragility, without the beauty of natural jade.
Synthetic material: generally lighter in density and easily perceptible in the hand.
Glass: glass and jade are similar in appearance and density, with no cotton in glass, but bubbles are present.
Tip: When rubbed vertically, the glass bracelet will be astringent, while the jade bracelet will remain smooth.
