The picture below depicts the relationship between the Face Derma Roller and the skin tissue. Skin tissue is divided into four layers, namely the stratum corneum, epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue. Microneedles of different lengths can pierce the skin tissue at different positions and produce different effects.
0.2 – 0.3mm Microneedles Roller
The microneedle of 0.2 – 0.3 mm is the shortest at present. The main function of this microneedle is to pierce the stratum corneum and generate countless tiny channels, so that various skin care products can penetrate the stratum corneum and reach the epidermis, thereby for better absorption by the skin. Microneedles of this length cannot stimulate collagen regeneration, so they do not have the legendary scar removal effect.
- Effect: pierce the stratum corneum, allowing the skin to better absorb skincare products;
- Side effects: skin redness to varying degrees, slight tingling;
- Use period: use every other day;
- Area of use: the whole face, including the eyes and neck;
- Notes: Use moderate force and avoid excessive force.
0.5mm Derma Roller
The 0.5mm microneedling is primarily used to treat fine lines, UV damage, light scars and hyperpigmentation. Plus, like 0.2 – 0.3 mm microneedling, it allows skin to absorb skincare products better and faster for better results.
- Effect: pierce the dermis layer to treat fine lines, UV damage, shallow scars and pigmentation;
- Side effects: dry skin, slight pain (slightly more painful than 0.2-0.3mm), slight bleeding, skin redness and allergies in some people;
- Usage period: once a week or twice a month;
- Area of use: the whole face, those with thin skin should avoid using around the eyes;
- Notes: Pay attention to thoroughly disinfect the roller and replenish water in time (recommended for beginners to use from 0.2 – 0.3 mm).
1.5 – 2.0mm Microneedles Roller
Microneedles of 1.5 – 2.0 mm in length can already penetrate deep into the dermis, which is fairly close to the subcutaneous tissue, and cause much greater damage to the skin than previously described. 1.5 – 2.0mm microneedling can treat many skin problems, but it is usually not used on the face (unless it is a professional micro plastic medical institution), and it is also not recommended for beginners to use it directly.
- Effect: Treatment of wrinkles stretch marks, mild to general scars, etc.;
- Side effects: dry skin, slight bleeding, crusting, redness, and irritation;
- Usage period: once every 6 weeks to 2 months, depending on the recovery of the skin;
- Areas of use: hands, abdomen, thighs, arms, and back (if covered with hair, it should be shaved first);
- Notes: Microneedles need to be thoroughly disinfected before use, local anesthetics should be used, and it is recommended to be used by professional medical institutions;
3.0mm Derma Roller
The 3.0 mm can pierce the skin layer by layer and reach the subcutaneous tissue, so it can only be used in professional medical institutions. At the same time, microneedles of this length cannot be used on the face, and can only be used on body parts with thicker skin.
- Effect: Treat wrinkles, stretch marks, scars (severe burns), etc.;
- Side effects: dry skin, slight bleeding, crusting, redness and irritation;
- Usage period: Continue to use after the skin has fully recovered;
- Areas of use: thighs, feet, arms, lower back, buttocks and backs of hands;
- Notes: It can only be used by professional medical institutions, must be anesthetized, and other microneedles are prohibited during the recovery period.
